Zines! Why?
Four little zines on a rock, one got ordered and people read it in your favorite spot!
A few weeks ago, I set up my first market table for the Harriet Tubman Freedom Farm at the Black Farmers Market in Raleigh. I had a great time, though I was feeling agitation and disappointment about not being able to bring produce, herbs or flowers to the market. Market goers approached me curiously and I am proud to say I was persuasive about getting people to come over for free seeds!
Because I won’t be selling food this year, I needed to pivot. The zine idea actually came from my therapist! Shout out to her forever. She reminded me of my passion for agro-education and said, “What if you make reading material?”
And ‘if’ I did!
Let’s start with what a zine is. Short for magazine or fanzine, pronounced “zeen”, these are usually DIY or handmade publications on a topic of the makers choice. The Land Lessons Zines focus on agroecology, politics and land stewardship. These are an exciting addition to my offerings from my land work and the work I do as a writer with the Garden Salon.
Currently, I have four zines to offer: Pruning Tomatoes and Black Liberation, Migration is Natural, Black Women Deserve Flowers, and Kid Friendly Gardening…
More zines are on the way! I am very excited to keep writing, continue designing, and encourage inspiration to connect with land where you are in a way you may not have considered before reading a Land Lesson Zine.
You can find the zines that are currently for sale in the Shop tab on the website! Subscirbe to the blog to stay up-to-date with new zines, workshops, and news about the farm move!
Thank you for the support through all the pivots.
