It’s Been a While
I am beyond late with posting. My intentions with this blog are to share regular biweekly updates about happenings on the farm and exciting things going on in the world of agriculture.
We are experiencing a global pandemic though, and blogging does not feel as important as planting and taking care of things on the ground.
All the same, I want to share some words of hope and perhaps light a fire of sweetness, joy, and power within you. Here are some quotes by my favorite writers and leaders. These words give me strength and remind me of the divine infinity supporting my purpose.
“God willing and creek don’t rise.” - Rosa Hargrove
My babysitter used to say this, she definitely qualifies as an old timer to me. This southern expression reminds me that some things are out of my hands and nature is powerful and floods ain’t nothing to play with. Rest in power ancestor, and thank you for the word, I love you.
“…nature knows nothing of death.” - a line from Magnolia Flower, Zora Neal Hurston
I am getting this tattooed on my chest. This is from tragic love story written by one of my favorite fiction authors. This specific line is a piece of dialogue from a scene where a brook meets an old wise river, the brook asks the river for a story and in choosing to tell the young brook about human error, the river says this line. The regeneration of soil, the healing power trees have on air, the cleansing quality of water, and the decomposition of bodies is beautifully illustrated in these words. Gives me tingles!
“Anarchists know that a long period of education must preced any great fundamental change in society, hence they do not believe in vote begging, nor political campaigns, but rather in the development of self-thinking individuals.” - The Principles of Anarchism, Lucy Parsons
Self-thinking individuals… Close your eyes and imagine what the world would like like with more of that.
“They are afraid of us because we are not afraid of them” -Berta Cáceres
A water protector and freedom fighter, Berta Cáceres was assassinated by corporations and the government of Honduras pushing a destructive damn on the Gualcarque River. In the United States, we have corporations, government officials, police, and federal agencies pushing pipelines and damns that will destroy sacred waterways in this land. These groups are also taking and threatening our lives, because they recognize our strength. Berta’s words remind me of my power. Especially when things seem so enormously terrible.
“Go to sleep.” - my parents for several years of my life
No lie, it would be nice to be tucked in still too. I say these words to myself now because rest is important, it is my right to rest, and sometimes I find it very difficult to sleep. I offer this in hopes that you sit back and find some good rest.
I send you love. It is okay to be scared so that you remember your bravery and strength.
